World Ventil8 Day 2024: Enabling Action
Table of Contents
What is world ventil8 day?
Every November 8th, advocates for clean air celebrate World Ventil8 Day to highlight the importance of proper indoor ventilation. Launched in 2022, this initiative addresses health and environmental challenges linked to inadequate ventilation, promoting strategies that enhance human health, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Supported by organizations like the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA), the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), World Ventil8 Day serves as a global platform to raise awareness about indoor air quality (IAQ) issues. This year, Air Support Project is proud to join in enabling action toward cleaner air and safer spaces.

Why Ventilation Matters: Health and Productivity Impacts
As we approach World Ventil8 Day, we remember that indoor air pollution is a problem that needs to be addressed across the globe. Open-fire cooking or inefficient stoves are used by nearly 1 out of every 3 people worldwide and are the leading source of indoor air pollution. Unsafe cooking practices release harmful pollutants, including particulate matter and carbon monoxide, which can significantly degrade IAQ and pose serious health risks. Addressing this issue is critical for improving overall indoor environments and safeguarding public health.
We commend the Clean Cooking Alliance for their efforts in promoting safe and clean cooking solutions globally. Their initiatives provide essential resources and support to communities striving to reduce indoor air pollution through better cooking technologies and practices.
Recent events like the COVID-19 pandemic, severe wildfire smoke, and industrial disasters have brought the importance of cleaner indoor air into public focus. The airborne transmission of COVID-19 has underscored the need to improve ventilation in public spaces. Crowded indoor environments, such as schools, significantly drive infection rates, and upgrading ventilation is a necessary—yet often underutilized—measure to control this public health crisis.
Beyond disease prevention, good ventilation offers additional benefits. Well-ventilated spaces can improve cognitive function, enhance productivity, and promote better sleep quality, enabling people to live healthier and more comfortable lives. This is especially critical in places where people spend most of their time, such as offices, schools, hospitals, and homes.
At Air Support Project, we recognize that proper ventilation is crucial for public health. Our latest initiative, aligned with World Ventil8 Day’s goals, provides free air quality education, including actionable recommendations for ventilation strategies and COVID-19 prevention. Additionally, we are developing a low-cost, high-efficiency air purifier. Our ultimate goal is to offer an open-source, affordable, and accessible air purifier to the public and spaces that need it most.
This Year’s Theme: "Enabling Action"
World Ventil8 Day 2024 focuses on the theme “Enabling Action,” emphasizing the move from awareness to tangible improvements in IAQ. While the benefits of proper ventilation are well-known, this year’s theme encourages everyone to actively implement effective solutions. By adopting practical measures—such as upgrading HVAC systems, using air purifiers, or simply opening windows—we can significantly improve IAQ together.
Resources and Ways to Participate
World Ventil8 Day offers free resources on its official website, including facts, events, and ways to get involved. Participants can assess their IAQ and find personalized recommendations for improvement. The campaign also features a virtual event on November 8 from 1-3pm GMT, allowing global audiences to attend workshops and panel discussions led by experts. Tickets are free and available here.
Air Support Project invites you to explore our educational resources on ventilation in our blogs: “The Hidden Dangers of Poor Ventilation: Understanding CO₂ and Its Impact on COVID-19 Infection Risk“ and “Powerful Ventilation and Filtration: Key to Reducing Viral Density.” Follow us on social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, and Mastodon), subscribe to our newsletter, and join our effort to improve IAQ.
